Beautiful Maine Mountain Wedding at SkiEsta Airbnb
2020 was a challenging year for so many brides and grooms, but one of the most inspiring years for us as photographers telling their stories. We saw people get creative in ways that proved the perseverance of love. Nick and Kelly’s mountain side wedding was a stunning example of how to plan a wedding in the middle of a pandemic.
The couple chose to host the wedding at SkiEsta in Newry, Maine. This 9 bedroom estate features a movie theater, indoor swimming pool, hot tubs, and mountain views. The bridal parties stayed for the weekend in the home (after testing negative for Covid). For couples wondering if you can pull off an Airbnb wedding- we’re here to say you can.
With a beautiful backyard area and creative interior details, the space was a dream to photograph. A soft mountain fog and slow drizzle covered the mountain in the morning, which broke way to the perfect sun-filled afternoon. As a Maine wedding photographer who celebrates the moody vibe, we were in our element. The space allowed the couple to bring in their own design elements, hosting an epic celebration in the mountains.
With flair from the roaring 20’s, Nick and Kelly brought out the best of Gatsby in their wedding décor. From the glittery bridesmaid dresses, to the tables with names like "giggle water," the 1920’s wedding theme was carried throughout.
Nick and Kelly chose to do their first look at the Sunday River Covered Bridge, an old fashioned bridge nestled at the base of the mountains surrounded by New England foliage. Afterwards, their bridal parties and family met them on location to do group photographs. Having a first look allowed them to spend some time together soaking it all in, and the New England backdrop did the rest.
The ceremony featured fresh florals from Pooh Corner Farm, showcasing deep burgundies and pops of white. A beautiful metal archway was the focal point in the backyard, where the couple gathered to exchange their hand-written vows. The couple was married by the bride's brother. Some who were nearest and dearest to the bride and groom did readings, which honored those who could not be there to celebrate. The entire ceremony was heart-felt and genuine, so uniquely their own, and it left everyone, including us, in tears.
The reception was hosted inside a tent setup in the backyard, with string lights and a sunset over the mountain. The couple was surrounded by their closest family and friends, dancing the night away to a live band, with a guest performance from the bride's father.
Even though their celebration was scaled back in size, the couple chose to honor their interests and style by creating an intimate wedding full of personality and fun. Nick and Kelly, we cheers you and your beautiful future together.
